The Carefree wherever you may be chant is sung to the tune of “Lord of the Dance”, written by English songwriter Sydney Carter in 1963.
Chesterfield FC fans originally started the chant back in 1981 during their Anglo-Scottish Cup-winning season. It is rumoured that a Chelsea fan became aware of the chant and then adopted it, to make it Chelsea specific. The Chelsea version of Carefree wherever you may be was reportedly first sung on an away trip to Sweden in 1982.
