She Wore A Yellow Ribbon Chant Lyrics

She wore, she wore,
She wore a yellow ribbon,
She wore a yellow ribbon in the merry month of May,
And when I asked, Oh why she wore her ribbon?
She said it’s for The Arsenal and we’re going to Wembley.
Wembley, Wembley,
We’re the famous Arsenal and we’re going to Wembley.

What Is The History of the “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon Chant”?

A well-known chant amongst supporters of the Arsenal Football Club is the “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” chant. The song “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,” was composed in 1949 and made famous by the John Wayne-starring movie “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” where the Andrews Sisters performed the song. The song then served as the inspiration for the Arsenal chant, Arsenal supporters then adapted the song’s lyrics to create a chant for the club.

The song became popular amongst Arsenal fans between 1978 and 1980 when the club reached back-to-back FA Cup finals. Arsenal wore their famous yellow way kit in three of those finals, losing against Ipswich and West Ham, however, they did beat one of their biggest rivals Manchester United. Now “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” is synonymous with Arsenal Football Club, the FA Cup and the road to Wembley

Arsenal sang “She wore a yellow ribbon” as they won the 1950 FA Cup against Liverpool, where they wore their famous yellow kit and won the match 2 nil. “The merry month of May” is sung as the FA Cup is played at the end of the premier league season in May.
